The Immigration Enquiry Bureau (based in Croydon) provides information about applications for permission to remain or settle in the UK. Handles enquiries about applications to work or study under the points-based system and is the place to contact in the first instance to book appointments at a public enquiry office (the Sheffield office is in Vulcan House, Millsands - access by appointment only, no personal callers).

The Sponsorship and Employers' Helpline provides information about the following:
sponsorship under the new points-based system
verification of entitlement to work for people who are currently awaiting the outcome of an application made to the Home Office
the prevention of illegal working, especially advice about carrying out the document check necessary to establish a statutory excuse against liability to pay a civil penalty
