  Antenatal and Postnatal Support - BabyCalm Classes
Lucy Atkinson runs BabyCalm Antenatal workshops and classes which prepare new parents for parenthood.

• The BabyCalm Antenatal workshop will show you how to be a confident mum or dad, able to welcome your baby into a world where they are calmer and more settled. You will be armed with many techniques to make your baby's transition from womb to world as smooth and comfortable as possible, avoid colic and aid sleep for the whole family. Dads are actively encouraged to attend this workshop, which focuses heavily on the importance of fathers and roles that dad may play to support the mother and bond with their baby.

Workshops are held at Chancet Wood Children's Centre, S8 (Thursday)

• BabyCalm classes are a 4-week course designed for new mothers and babies, incorporating baby calming and communication skills. It is held in an interactive and supportive group format, including discussion of many topics that new mums commonly face – such as feeding worries, bonding, colic, wind, lack of sleep and health concerns. Also included is a light baby massage routine.
These classes also provide an invaluable opportunity for you to make new friends with other local mums. This course is most suited to newborn babies from birth to 20 weeks of age, and costs include massage oil and a BabyCalm calming CD.

Classes are held at various Children's Centres during the week.

• The BabyCalm Introduction to Slings and Carriers introduces new parents to 'babywearing'. It is an overview of some of the benefits of carrying babies, with an introduction to basic carriers using some of the main different types of slings and carriers available. The workshop is particularly suited to mums and dads, and is an excellent way to increase dads' confidence in their new role.

• The BabyCalm Baby Led Weaning workshop is an introduction to introducing solid food into your baby’s diet, which will cover the benefits of baby led weaning, together with ‘Dos and Don’ts’ and practical tips on when, where and how. This aims to make the transition to solid food more fun and less stressful for all involved.

• BabyCalm Weaning Workshop costs £30 per couple

  Antenatal and Postnatal Support - HypnoBirthing
Lucy Atkinson provides support for calm and happy families, starting before birth.

HypnoBirthing classes are a course of antenatal preparation classes that cover relaxation techniques, alongside education about how the body works during labour, and practical tips and strategies for both mum and birth partner to remain calm and focused during labour and birth.

Classes are available on an individual or group basis. Private classes are held in your own home at times convenient to you.

Group classes are held at Chancet Wood Childrens Centre, S8 (Monday evenings).

Prices:

The course costs £175 per couple if taken as a group class, and £275 per couple if taken privately. The price includes all tuition and hand outs, a copy of a book and relaxation CD, and on-going phone and email support up to and just after the birth. Also included is a free individual 'refresher' session if required close to, or after the estimated due date.

  Families Need Fathers, Sheffield Branch
Families Need Fathers in Sheffield is a voluntary self-help group affiliated to the national organisation providing support to separating parents. It is concerned with maintaining a child's relationship with both parents during and after family breakdown and promoting shared parenting.

The group offers advice to people going through the family court process and is open to any person or member of the extended family. They provide help, advice, leaflets and literature.

  Lucy Atkinson - ToddlerCalm
Lucy Atkinson is an experienced Special Needs teacher and a qualified hypnotherapist specialising in family support, particularly for families with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). She also runs ToddlerCalm classes, which aim to support parents to raise their toddlers with confidence and bond with their children.

Classes and Workshops:
• ToddlerCalm classes are a 4-week course suitable for all parents of all toddlers aged 1 to 3 years. Parents will learn how to understand and calm their toddler, deal with picky eating and cope with frequent night waking as well as helping you raise a happy and confident child.

• The Toddler Tantrum workshop will help you to understand why toddlers tantrum and what you can do to help them stay calm and happy. This workshop can also be taken in advance of the toddler years, showing you the skills of toddler calming whilst your little one is still a baby. Dads are actively encouraged to attend this workshop, which focuses heavily on the importance of fathers and roles that dad may play.

• The Toddler Sleep workshop will help you to make sense of your toddler’s sleep patterns, and understand frequent night waking, night terrors and early morning waking. The workshop builds confidence in your night-time parenting skills. Dads are again actively encouraged to attend this workshop, which focuses heavily on the importance of fathers and roles that dad may play.

Prices:

• the ToddlerCalm 4 week course costs £75 pounds and includes a toddler calm CD
• the Toddler Tantrum workshop costs £35 per couple and includes comprehensive notes, workshops are held at various Children's Centres on Saturday mornings
• the Toddler Sleep workshop costs £35 per couple and includes comprehensive notes

  National Childbirth Trust (NCT)
The National Childbirth Trust wishes all parents to have an experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood that enriches their lives and gives them confidence in being a parent, providing local support and putting parents in touch for social networking.

The NCT also runs antenatal classes and provides information on maternity issues, breastfeeding and postnatal support including specialist groups for caesareans and miscarriage. It has approximately 320 branches throughout the country and the NCT is also involved in research and campaigning. A registered charity.

  Sheffield Babywearers
Sheffield Babywearers is a group of parents who like to carry babies and toddlers in slings, wraps and carriers. The group meets twice a month and sometimes more often, to try out new babywearers, skill-swap, try out other members slings, chat and eat cake.

Everyone is welcome, mums, dads, grandparents, expectant mothers and people who are just interested. Babies, toddlers and older children are welcome.

This is a volunteer-run parent's group, there is a small charge at some of the venues where the group meets eg soft play centres.
