  Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home


Broomgrove is a residential nursing home, which has 37 beds for older people or people who have a physical impairment and also provides day care facilities and sheltered housing. Broomgrove Trust is a registered charity, established in 1964, which provides long-term, short-term, convalescent and respite care.

Broomgrove Trust has Recognised Provider List (RPL) status for it's day care service only. It also has Framework Agreement status for it's day care services and access to leisure services.

Service Provided:
• Offers quality respite and convalescent care in the nursing home which is provided by a team of nurses, carers, designated GP service, physiotherapist, complementary therapist, beauty therapist and activity co-ordinator. The home specialise in palliative care and is used by the NHS when specialist palliative care beds have been full in the city.
All rooms are ensuite with a TV/DVD and nurse call system. Fresh cooked meals are served in the dining room or in individual rooms. There are various sitting rooms and a conservatory which looks out on well maintained disabled accessible gardens.

• The home provides day care services 10am-3pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday with 5 places available each day. Day care services include lunch and refreshments and access to organised activities and entertainment with optional transport to and from the home.
Physiotherapy and complementary therapies are also available at a subsidised cost. Assisted bath/shower are available on request for an additional charge.

There is a high staff to service user ratio so that timely and high quality care can be delivered. Broomgrove Trust is a charitable trust and any surplus income is ploughed back into the home to improve services and the environment. The Trust has a number of flats for active retired people who must have been residents of Sheffield. Holds regular residents' meetings throughout the year and runs an on site activity programme for residents.

• Day Care costs are £35 per day, optional transport pick up and drop off costs an extra £10 and an assisted bath/shower costs £10.

  Cambian Specialist Day Services
The Cambian Group is the UK’s largest provider of specialist services for people with learning disabilities and mental health issues including education and rehabilitation support.

Cambian's Specialist Day Service in Sheffield, can support individuals, aged 16 years and over, with a primary diagnosis of a learning disability (including people with physical impairments and/or sensory impairments, complex needs and older people). Individuals supported may also be wheelchair users, have complex physical disabilities requiring specialist interventions such as PEG or NG feeding, have an autistic spectrum disorder or communication difficulties. The service can also support people with challenging behaviour. Will accept referrals for clients aged 15 years and over.

Services Provided:

Day service facilities include a large hydrotherapy pool, sensory room, ball pool room and cinema room. The service has a dedicated team including an occupational therapist, a physiotherapist, a nurse and a speech and language therapist. The on-site chef cooks fresh meals and snacks for service users. The team seeks to demonstrate outcomes and value through their activities and has a high staffing ratio.

The centre, based in Woodhouse (S13), has state of the art facilities and provides individualised support with a wealth of opportunities to stimulate and surprise; to relax or have fun; to make friends and learn new skills. The service is big on fun with staff who are passionate about providing the highest quality of day service. Each day there are 8 activity options; 4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. The day service welcomes people to come and have a look around or ring for a brochure.

The centre is open 7 days a week and is open on bank holidays, providing flexibility for families and carers, they only close 3 days a year. The day service has its own fleet of transport which allows service users to be picked up and returned home and are also used for regular trips into the community.

Cambian Specialist Day Service was established in 2003 and all staff are CRB checked. A Registered Manager oversees the services. Clients take part in regular satisfaction surveys and the service undergoes continual monitoring. Cambian have their own set of day service standards which they use.

  Claremont Hospital
The Claremont Hospital is an independent hospital owned by Aspen Healthcare with 40 in-patient beds, a 4-bed critical care unit and a dedicated day surgery centre. It has an extensive range of outpatient services, including a centre of excellence sports medicine clinic.

The hospital carries out a full range of surgical procedures covering the following clinical specialties: orthopaedics and trauma, general surgery, colorectal, ophthalmics, bariatrics, urology, gynaecology, cosmetic surgery, ENT and neurosurgery.

The following medical specialties are also provided: cardiology, including a full range of diagnostics; respiratory medicine; diabetology; dermatology; immunology; rheumatoid and general medicine.

The hospital's clinical support services include 3 operating theatres, an in-house laboratory, physiotherapy unit, pharmacy and a large imaging department which includes on-site static MRI/CT/plain and contrast film studies and ultrasound.

Services provided by Darnall Health Centre include health visitor, child health clinic, community paediatric clinic, womens health clinic, chiropody, physiotherapy, district nurses, counselling service and continence nurse.

Services are provided at Darnall Health Centre, York Road, S9 (Monday-Friday).



  Different Strokes
A registered charity that offers support, information and advice to younger stroke survivors (65 years and under) and their families. Offers a "serious approach to stroke rehabilitation - run by survivors".

Runs sessions which involve exercise and fitness to improve balance and suppleness with qualified neuro-physiotherapists as well as tailored one to one programmes. Professional updates are provided by psychologist, occupational therapists, mental health professionals and health researchers - as requested by group members. Offers the chance to share, talk and listen on a range of topics you would like to talk about such as relationships, memory, concentration, in safe and supportive environment. Also plans socials, meals out, trips to concerts, countryside and comedy nights.

Different strokes can offer free access to resources, information and signpost to other stroke services across the city. Donations are welcome towards the shared costs of the physiotherapy.

Sessions are held at 18 Upperthorpe, S6 (Saturday).



  Holistic Physiotherapy - Elisabeth Cardew and Associates
Elisabeth Cardew and Associates treat all structural problems including spinal and peripheral which are causing symptoms of back pain, headaches and irritable bowel. Costs approx £40 per half-hour session.

There is a yoga teacher who gives one-to-one yoga sessions, deep tissue massage, facial stretching and beauty treatments. Costs £45 per one hour session (these prices are provided by Holistic Physiotherapy, please check them yourself for accuracy).

There is also an associate physiotherapist who is very interested in nutrition. Please contact for up-to-date details of prices. Can accommodate wheelchair users by prior arrangement. Home visits are possible. Self or any referral.

  Leonard Cheshire Disability

Leonard Cheshire Disability is a registered charity that provides permanent, respite and day care for people with physical disabilities. The nursing home has 39 permanent beds and 1 respite bed for people aged 18-70 years.

The charity organises activities, outings and crafts and arranges aromatherapy, physiotherapy, chiropody sessions and reflexology.

Leonard Cheshire also provides 4 mini buses which are used by the residents for social outings, shopping etc, and holds various fetes and activities.

In addition Leonard Cheshire Sheffield offers a home care service which provides personal and domiciliary care services for older people and anyone with a disability (people with physical impairment and/or sensory impairment, learning disabilities and complex needs, aquired brain injury, dementia, alzheimers, terminal illness, people with mental health issues) or anyone with a support need wishing to remain in their own home.

Services Provided:

Home care provision is available from 20 minutes to 24 hour live-in service. Respite and holiday relief can also be arranged. Emergency 24 hour on call system. All care packages are tailored to the individual offering choice and opportunity. Care plans are agreed with each client. Leonard Cheshire Sheffield can provide the following:

  Lucy Robinson - Fitback and Bumps Antenatal and Postnatal Physiotherapy Exercise Classes
Lucy Robinson MCSP HPC is a physiotherapist and an instructor for FitBack and Bumps which offers a four week exercise course for both antenatal and postnatal women. The course focuses on pelvic floor and core stability strength and how to exercise safely both whilst pregnant and postnatally.

The aim of the course is to educate women, preparing them for birth and then get their bodies back into shape postnatally, flattening tummies and treating and preventing stress incontinence.

Postnatal ladies are welcome to bring their babies to the class if they are precrawling. The four week course includes an education and exercise booklet with each weeks exercises on laminated sheets.

Sessions are held at Abbeydale Sports Club, S17.

Individual sessions are also available in your own home or at Hallam Physiotherapy, S11.

PRICE:
There is a charge of £80 for the four sessions, including materials. Classes are small with a maximum of 8 women per session (this price is provided by Lucy Robinson, please check it yourself for accuracy).
