Sheffield Community Information Service is part of Sheffield Libraries, Archives and Information, which is a department of Sheffield City Council. We provide :-
Local Information
We have been involved in collecting local information in Sheffield for many years, making it
available to the public in a variety of formats, answering personal enquiries at our Reception, Reference and Information Service in the Central Library or by telephone on 0114 273 4712, via printed lists, or electronically on the web.
Our key resource is the Help Yourself database.
Help Yourself
Help Yourself is an online directory of voluntary, community, faith sector, health & social care organisations in Sheffield.
There are over 5000 entries covering a wide range of subjects including:
Art
Music
Sport & Leisure
The Environment (including recycling)
Housing
Health & Social Care
Education, Training & Employment
Family Welfare
Faith
Advice & Support
We have details of clubs and services for disabled people, older people, black and minority ethnic people, gay, lesbian and bisexual people, refugees & asylum seekers, homeless people, children and young people.
On Help Yourself there are pages you can use to help plan your care and support. On these pages you will find details of relevant health and social care organisations, support groups and a whole host of leisure activities to help you get out and about and make friends. These pages can be used by Direct Payment holders or Individual Budget holders for Self Directed Support aswell as people who are funding their own care and support.

The information in The Help Yourself Database is managed and updated jointly by Sheffield Libraries, Archives and Information Services and the Patient Information Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
The Help Yourself website is provided in partnership with the Information School at the University of Sheffield. Please send any amendments or queries concerning the information in the database to Sheffield Community Information Service at scis@sheffield.gov.uk

Help Yourself is an online directory of community groups, support groups, health and social care organisations in Sheffield. Here you will find leisure activities such as dancing, drama, reading and writing groups, art, music and youth clubs. You will find sports activities such as martial arts, yoga and pilates, rambling, swimming, keep fit, cycling, cricket, boxing. You will find groups for older people, people with mental health issues, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, homeless people, asylum seekers, refugees. You will find self help and support groups for drugs and alcohol, domestic violence, carers, gay lesbian and bisexual people, people with alzheimers, dementia and other health conditions. You can also plan your care and support and find home care/home support, residential care, respite care, lunch clubs and support if you receive an individual budget or direct payment. You can also find details of places of worship whatever your faith, recycling facilities and conservation groups, community centres, Taras, venues for hire, private tutors, literacy and numeracy and so much more.
